JIM & VICTORIA'S WEDDING
APRIL,
2004. Select, small but beautifully formed. Just 80 people were invited
to Jim and Victoria's wedding and the reception party in The Orangery
at Margam Park. And another one of those miracles happened. At times during
the evening, just about every seat was empty; everyone was on the dance
floor. Even the bar staff were dancing through the night:"we love
this music" - see the picture.
A
starter of Nat King Cole's Almost Like Being in Love opened the
night, Jim and Victoria Ellis taking to the floor like true Come Dancing
professionals and earning a well deserved round of applause.
The main course consisted two long sets of wonderful classic soul songs and ballads, intespersed with a little jazz and funk -plenty of 60s, 70s and 80s tunes to listen and dance to.
For afters, a homely, comfortable version of Mustang Sally with several side-orders of breathtaking solo performances from each member of the band bringing the dance floor to a standing ovation. They stopped dancing; they listened; then they cried for more.
The venue - The Orangery at Margam Park in South Wales - looked beautiful
in the evening sun of a gloriously hot April day. Unusually, the band
played at the bar end; a good decision if there are not too many tables.
The 18th
Century Orangery is the dramatic and magnificent centrepiece to the
gardens, it is fronted by an elegant terrace with three ornate fountains
featuring entwined dolphins and scallop shells. In 1973, the Orangery
was in a ruinous state. Four years later the restoration was completed
and it was opened by the Queen in her Silver Jubilee Year. Now the magnificent
18th Century Orangery is the centrepiece of lovely formal gardens, a prestigious
location which is much sought after for a diverse range of events. Be
it a corporate launch, a celebratory dinner or that special wedding day,
the possibilities are endless.
